Comersus

Free ASP Shopping carts

I was testing out version 7.08 of this fullblown e-commerce solution and this one is the numer one no doubt.

First of all, installation. A wizard setting everything up for you.

Nice looking store GUI

Admin products

If I were to create an fullblown online store Comersus would be my choice. I mean, being able to offer variations (colors for example) and built in handling of selling digital goods, that's really nice.

This project is pretty extensive. Hosted at Sourceforge. Features a real admin panel, template engine and basically this means a full featured shopping and order management solution.

Lots of things to get going, I had some trouble with paths, but  for instance. Still - sourcecode is easily read and it therefore would allow you to do some pretty nice customizations if needed. I never tested it out all the way, cause for my particular solution it was too heavy. But this one sure is recommended to try out.

Important: after you downloaded, the userid for admin panel (accessible through /admin(index.asp) is administrator with password admin.

While I as an developer, likes the ability to get a solid base and enhance it from there, this base is in my personal view a little too rough. While the screenshots I am showing here are really looking bad since I didn't bother downloading the images I saw directly this was nothing for me to build upon. I know - this example is not meant to be more, but all I am saying is that there are more solid foundations to start from if you are about to implement a asp shopping cart.

The code is really simple - no database at all, instead it shows you some nice array handling techniques which it worth looking into.

While there are "pro" versions of this script from MetaLinks.com, the free asp shopping cart ( Meta Cart free) is certainly pretty nice as it is.

While Access as database backend might not be the hottest solution as of tiday, it sure does it job pretty well. I also think it would not be too much work to upgrade it to SQL Server yourself.

It features a nice looking layout

A browsable product catalog

A really nice looking product page

And the checkout page

All in all - very nice. Great when you have such a foundation to start with - and the database itself features only 4 tables so it would not be too hard to make adjustments.

I take my hat off for this cart! Easy to install and easy to modify
